Saxophone Bio
Lindsey is a saxophonist with a wide range of interests from free improvisation to standards, such as the Creston Sonata, Op. 19 and concertos by Ibert and Glazunov. She is a promoter of new music, premiering compositions by Turkar Gasimzada, Nick Hwang, and her own works, among others. She enjoys performing in unique chamber ensembles, such as duos with flute, cello, harp, percussion, organ, and voice. Lindsey has performed at contemporary music festivals, including the soundSCAPE festival in Italy, STUDIO 300 Digital Art and Music Festival, and the LSU Festival of Contemporary Music. Her interests in technology, improvisation, and new music have led to performances with Fringe Logic, a Cincinnati-based new music collective, and laptop ensembles CiCLOP and the LOLs.
Her experience with the improvisation ensemble, AIR Improvisers and her views on free improvisation from a compositional and performance perspective are featured in a dissertation by Edward Neeman, “Free Improvisation as a Performance Technique: Group Creativity and Interpreting Graphic Scores” available here.
Former saxophone teachers include James Bunte, Griffin Campbell, and Scott Erickson. Lindsey is an Assistant Professor of Music at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where she teaches music theory and applied saxophone.
