The piece is a semi-programmatic dream sequence in two sections; the first section flaunts chasing rhythmic gestures, interweaving the trombone and synthesized sounds, while the trombone becomes the central timbre in the liberally synchronized second section. The electronically produced sounds maintain an aural illusion of recorded sound samples. Organic timbres are prominent throughout, while metallic tone colors increase during the second half of the piece. Lucidity concludes with the trombonist exerting control over the dream sequence through manipulation of motivic material, dynamics, and tempo.
