Bioluminescence

Bioluminescence

interactive audio/video environment

Collaborative work by Todd Gries, Lindsey Jacob, and Benny Martinson. First Presented June 6, 2011.

Bioluminescence is an interactive audio/video environment conceived and developed not only as an installation, but also as a performance piece. The suggestion and sense of motion apparent within the audio influenced the creation of dance-inspired and produced images. Eliciting movement within sound and creating various dimensions of space were two primary objectives of this collaborative project. In science, bioluminescence refers to a chemical reaction by which living organisms produce and emit light. Bioluminescent deep-sea creatures and insects were an inspiration for this work.
