Presenting at 2019 NCCC Fine Arts Conference
I am excited to present two sessions at the 2019 North Carolina Community College Fine Arts Conference in Salisbury, NC on February 21–23. I will be presenting my research regarding Music Bilateral Articulation Agreements during Session 6B in the Norvell Theater Upstairs from 10:15–11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Here is the presentation abstract:
With the AFA in Music degree to Bachelor of Music degree Uniform Articulation Agreement (UAA) between the University of North Carolina System and North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) becoming effective Fall 2018 and the AFA in Music degree to Bachelor of Music degree Independent Uniform Articulation Agreement (IUAA) between the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities and NCCCS AFA in Music in progress, transferability of students from community college music programs to senior institutions in NC is becoming easier and more transparent.
The UAA and IUAA are essential. However, institution-to-institution articulation agreements still form an important link between NCCCS music programs and NC senior institution music programs, as these agreements enhance transferability of students from community colleges to senior institutions. This research compiles current institution-to-institution articulation agreements between AFA in Music and BM programs in NC for the purpose of increasing transparency and encouraging communication between music programs where bilateral agreements do not yet exist.
Later in the day during Session 8D from 1:30–2:00 p.m. in the Meroney Theater Third Floor, I will be co-presenting with Jenn Selby, NCCC AFA Association President and Director of Philanthropy, Transfer & the Arts at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, in a session titled, “Curriculum Improvement: Steps and Processes Explained.” I am excited to detail my experience with revising the North Carolina Community College Music Theory curriculum and creating the Aural Skills curriculum that was put into effect Fall 2018.
